Move More Daily by Tracking your Steps with a Pedometer
Written by Amanda on February 14, 2009 – 10:20 pm -My work is beginning a health program so all the employees received pedometers to track our daily steps. Our goal is walk 10,000 steps a day, which is about 4 miles. I was walking an avereage of 4,000 steps per day. I am very competitive (all in a fun way of coarse) so this wouldn’t cut it, especially since I feel like I am letting my team down. Well this week I broke 10,000 steps in one day, and have been increasing my steps on a daily basis.
A pedometer is just another way to track and be accountable for your daily activity. Because I have been monitoring myself, I can no longer pretend that I am active, if I am not. Everything is right there on the screen. If I need more steps, I can go for a walk or shopping, or do a workout video. I am also joining a walking club to increase my steps more routinely.
As for this particular pedometer? I like it. It has different modes, so you can see your steps, miles, aerobic steps, and calories burned. It easily clips on your pants or belt and has a saftey string so it doesn’t fall off. It also allows you to set your stride to record steps more accurately. An added bonus is that it has a clock and resets your steps on a daily basis. Then it keeps a record of steps for 7 days. All in all, this is a great pedometer. I wish the screen had a backlight, and I already scuffed up the front, but those are the only negative things I have to say about this product.

Stay Active With Video Games
Written by Amanda on December 31, 2008 – 2:26 am -Many may disagree, but video games can be beneficial. They can be educational and help with reaction time. But, now they can also help you lose weight. Several years ago, I got Dance Dance Revolution when I was on a health kick and it was great, and addicting. Now I have a Wii and have already seen results from playing with family over the holidays. I have been playing Wii Sports on a daily basis, and have worked up a sweat and am sore from increased physical activity. Just one more way to move from sedentary to active.

Z-Coil Shoes Help Relieve Pain
Written by Amanda on November 8, 2008 – 9:55 pm -
When you are overweight, your feet, joints, back, and basically everything hurts. I am on my feet all day and when I got home my feet hurt so much that I didn’t want to do anything except put my feet up and watch TV. My legs ached at night, which made it hard to sleep. I had read about Z-coils and knew people who had them, but I was afraid of looking like inspector gadget, so I didn’t want to get them. Finally, my husband got tired of my crankiness and took me to buy some.

Well, now I don’t care what I look like. My feet don’t hurt, I can go on long walks with little pain afterwards. I love them. I don’t wear them all the time, just when I know that I need them. I like the way they take the impact off of your feet. Another added bonus is that they have helped my posture. When I first started wearing them, I was sore, especially my core muscles. Now I notice improved posture all the time. The shoes were expensive, but most of the parts are replaceable.
On the down side, they feel a little big for me and they made me realize that one foot is bigger than the other. I have to tie them really tight because they are very wide. I know some people who complain that they are too heavy, but that doesn’t really bother me. All in all, I would say that if you are having the same problems that I was, you may want to think of a pair of these.

My favorite BPA free water bottle
Written by Amanda on November 8, 2008 – 7:15 pm -I drink water every day all day. I heard about the BPA drama and I thought that I should probably upgrade to a better bottle. I was looking for a water bottle with a straw because I love straws, and I was tired of spilling water all over my shirt, multiple time a day. I also needed one that didn’t leak. Since I do not have access to water during the day, I needed a larger bottle. This is what I found.
The Camelbak Better Bottle is 32oz. It doesn’t leak, has a straw and was about $15. I have had it for a few months and I love it.
